Diaphragm plates control the gas exchange process in the intake area. They open during the intake process and close during pre-compression in the crankcase. How quickly this process takes place has a significant influence on the throttle response (liveliness) of the engine.
As standard, original reed valve blocks are usually fitted with very inert or even steel plates. This has two disadvantages: The engine reacts only good-naturedly to the throttle command and these original plates can destroy the entire engine in the event of a defect.
Malossi provides a remedy with these fiberglass diaphragms in various thicknesses. This allows the response behavior to be individually adjusted to the requirements. Thinner plates respond better at lower engine speeds, thicker ones support the engine better at the highest engine speeds. Fiberglass plates usually disappear into the exhaust without causing any damage if they should break.
A set of 0.30mm and 0.35mm is supplied to fit the VL10 reed block for scooters with Minarelli vertical engines.
